Agenda Change for Monday May 12 E.C. Meeting
May 9, 2025As we head into a new week, we highlight a few important bills moving through the Wisconsin State Legislature. While we can’t cover every proposal out of the hundreds introduced each session, here are a few worth noting:
VETOED: AB 1 / SB 18
Educational Standards Reform
Bill Summary:
Relating to: changes to the educational assessment program and the school and school district accountability report. Read more
Governor Tony Evers has already vetoed this common-sense legislation early in the 2025–26 session. The bill aimed to restore the more rigorous 2019–2020 academic standards that were weakened under DPI head Jill Underly’s leadership—changes that have repeatedly prioritized union interests and leftist indoctrination over student achievement.
Tony Evers is a creature of the far-left academic swamp. He continues to lower the bar for Wisconsin students to protect the Democrat machine and cover up the failures of their public education policies. In fact, Evers holds the record for the most vetoes by any governor in Wisconsin history.
It’s time to start laying the groundwork now to put him into long-overdue retirement next fall.
AB 43 / SB 42 – The “Pill Bill”
Bill Summary:
Relating to: permitting pharmacists to prescribe certain contraceptives.

Currently, pharmacists in Wisconsin cannot prescribe medications. This bill would change that, allowing them to prescribe certain contraceptives, many of which may act as abortifacients.
What are abortifacients?
Abortifacients are substances that can end a pregnancy after fertilization has occurred. That means they don’t just prevent conception—they can interfere with a fertilized egg’s ability to implant in the uterus or disrupt an already implanted embryo. This includes certain hormonal birth control methods, emergency contraception like Plan B or Ella, and some intrauterine devices (IUDs). While some of these drugs are marketed as contraceptives, their potential to cause early abortions is a key reason why pro-life groups oppose them.
Speaker Vos violated his rule of 50 to push this bill through with Democrat support. We’re proud to report that ten Republican legislators, including our own Representative Brill of Sheboygan Falls, stood strong and voted no.
Those Republicans are: Allen, Brill, Behnke, Goeben, Gundrum, Gustafson, Maxey, Peterson, Sortwell, and Wichgers.
The bill now heads to the Senate, where it has died in previous sessions. We pray that history repeats itself.
“Abortion Rights Preservation Act” – A Radical Proposal
While this bill does not yet have an assigned number, it is already deeply concerning. The so-called “Abortion Rights Preservation Act” would remove all legal protections for unborn children, allowing abortion for any reason, at any point in pregnancy, fully funded by taxpayers.
Every Democrat legislator—except one—has already signed on.
This is the Democrat Party’s vision: taxpayer-funded, abortion-on-demand through all nine months of pregnancy. It is appalling, and it reveals just how extreme and unashamed the modern Left has become on the issue of life.
Representative Brill released a strong statement condemning this bill:

AJR 10 – Protecting the Right to Worship
Bill Summary:
To amend Section 18, Article I of the Wisconsin Constitution: relating to the freedom to gather in places of worship during a state of emergency (second consideration). Read more
This proposed constitutional amendment would explicitly prohibit any level of government from restricting religious gatherings, even during a declared emergency. Whether the excuse is “public health” or something else, our God-given right to worship must never be infringed.
While we believe the U.S. and Wisconsin Constitutions already protect this freedom, AJR 10 would strengthen those protections by making them unmistakable in state law.
To amend the state constitution, both chambers must pass the same resolution in two consecutive sessions, followed by a statewide vote. This is the second consideration, which means if it passes again, the people of Wisconsin will have the opportunity to vote on it next year.
Last session, nearly every Democrat voted against this basic freedom. They want the government to have the power to close your church doors. We must never forget that.
Thank you for taking the time to stay informed. These bills reflect the direction our state is headed, both in terms of the threats we face and the positions we must take.
We encourage you to respectfully reach out to your elected officials, speak truth boldly, and stay engaged. The fight for our values is happening now—not just in elections, but in every committee room, every vote, and every conversation.
As always, contact your local representative(s). You can find their information at the Wisconsin Legislature website using the “Who Are My Legislators?” feature, and you will instantly see who speaks for you in Madison and how to connect with them.
Let’s keep pressing forward with clarity, courage, and conviction.
