September 9, 2024Objections by Christians to voting
October 17, 2024Vote like you Pray
Roger Oliver 10/9/2024
First of all, then, I urge that requests, prayers, intercessions, and thanks be offered on behalf of all people, even for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. 1 Timothy 2:1
According to a recent Barna poll, many Christians are apathetic about the upcoming election. Barna predicts that such apathy could hand the Whitehouse to Harris. That would be a disaster. I know of one pastor who advises we sit it out because we need to stop giving the Uniparty power. My thought is that they have power already. The question is which side of the Uniparty will leave us to lead a peaceful and quite life in all godliness and dignity?
Reality check #1: Perhaps we should just admit that the US is no longer a Republic but a Statist oligarchy. This isn’t Tocqueville’s America. The Statist Uniparty governs. It is hostile to the morality and religion of which Adams spoke. The American founding ideals of limited government are dead.
The early Christians lived under a repressive Statist regime. Some rulers were worse than others; some were more prone to leave the Christians alone than others. If they could choose, which would they have preferred? It wasn’t a matter of the lesser of two evils but of facing the reality that God had placed before them.
They could not vote but we can. The right to vote may have been reduced to a choice between who will tyrannize you and tax you but at least it is still there. It is one of the few remnants of the limited government envisioned by the framers of the Constitution.
Reality check #2: “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other,” John Adams. That, we are no longer. Christian morality no longer governs the heart of Americans. We are living in neo-pagan times with a utilitarian morality that does not respect human life. Neither party is going to be outright anti-abortion or anti-LGBT. That is just a fact. It reflects the worldview of most Americans today, including most Christians, sad to say.
Which party will leave us alone to evangelize the lost, meet to worship in peace and save the innocent preborn? It certainly won’t be the Harris/Walz ticket. If the Democrats win the Whitehouse, expect open persecution of the prolife movement. Expect more excuses to shut down churches that don’t toe the mark of the murderous paganism that rules their hearts.
We have been taught that ours is a Republic, if we can keep it. Not so anymore. We lost it. We are an empire and the sooner we accept that fact the sooner we will seek realistic ways to navigate the empire. The laws and edicts of the humanist empire will not save us. The law never saved anyone. Only Christ saves.
Vote your conscience. Sit it out if you must. As for me, I’m voting in the election this November. I’m voting Republican, not because they are perfect but because I think they will give us the best chance to lead a peaceful and quite life in all dignity and godliness. I’m not expecting perfection or miraculous changes. After all, whoever I vote for represents the American empire, not the Republic. I certainly will not vote for the Nero party. Yes, there is a significant difference worth considering.
